Diffus Design receives Red Dot Award

SpacEmotion by Diffus Design has been awarded the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014, one of the world’s largest and most renowned product design competitions.
Underlining it’s credentials in design excellence in one of the world’s largest and most renowned product competitions, WSpacEmotion stood out from 4.815 entries and bestowed the distinction ‘Honorable Mention’ for excellent detail solutions from the international Red Dot jury. This coveted top award, places SpacEmotion by Diffus at the forefront of international product design.
Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot, said: “The 40 experts assessed the quality of the entries with the utmost care and attention. Due to their backgrounds, they also assessed the special cultural aspects of the designs from 53 countries. But only the best products receive an award from the panel. This is especially reflected in the percentage of successful entries in the Red Dot Award, which is much smaller in contrast to other international design competitions. Therefore, the winners can be proud of their achievements – with their entries, they stood out from the rest and were able to pass the test in front of the critical eyes of the experts. This success will be perceptible during the Red Dot Gala, when the laureates will receive the recognition of the international audience.”
SpacEmotion is an interior design that is creating a sensory and ambient atmosphere in your surroundings. It is a modular system of textile discs that have been embroidered with conductive yarn to generate different outputs including light, sound and scent across a custom made surface.
SpacEmotion can be used as a window curtain, a room divider, a sound installation and a light source. Sensory discs can be added, removed or re-configured to change the layout of a SpacEmotion array. The modular system provides opportunities for patterns and sensory functions to be added as new applications emerge and technologies such as OLED and printed responsive surfaces are developed.
Modern appliances are increasingly collected as design objects within the home, accepted and celebrated as a necessary evil for modern life. SpacEmotion creates an easily transformable and configurable system of appliances able to contain different functionalities within a networked array of soft, repetitive disks acting as smart power and information hubs. Individual appliances are transformed into an organic network with interrelated functionalities that is highly appealing to our senses.
SpacEmotion is designed by Hanne-Louise Johannesen and Michel Guglielmi, the co-owners at Diffus Design and developed in collaboration with Riccardo Marchesi from Inntex, Italy.
